A number of CIM members help run outreach days for the Life Discovery charity. Below is an overview of what goes on from Jonathan Crouch, one of the LD directors.
'LIFE & LIFE TO THE FULL'
-IN A FORM THAT EVERYONE CAN UNDERSTAND
Our charity's aim is to to take the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to adults who are unlikely ever to come near a church or church-related event. We have established a number of exciting programmes at venues in the South-East. The idea of the ‘Life Discovery days is to offer a “cutting edge” activity and to show real life in abundance – life with Christ - as something even better.
Despite the youthful nature of our ‘Karting For Life’, ‘Xtreme Mudsports For Life’, ‘Health, Beauty & Life’ and ‘Watersport For Life’ Programmes, this is not a youth ministry. Anyone can attend, as long as they're over twenty, and we ask church members to bring at least one guest from outside of the church. We often hear church members saying they wish they could find a fun activity that would really break the ice with those outside the church and enable outreach programmes to reach more people. That's where we hope Life Discovery fits in.
Though each day would be worth a huge amount in the corporate sector, there's no charge to guests (though we do ask Christians to contribute costs of around £30 per head where they can): nor is there any heavy preaching. Just a short after-dinner talk from a recognised evangelist the guests have had a chance to get to know during the day.
It's a unique opportunity for relationship bridge-building in the midst of a once-in-a-lifetime activity administered by Christian professionals from a wide variety of denominations and Motorsport backgrounds.
